8mm, Super-8 and 16mm Films    Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  How long will it take?
Usually 4 to 8 weeks.
Quicker service is available for a rush fee; just let us know your deadline.

Christmas Deadline is Nov. 5

Q. How do you focus the film?
Video Doc Productions
starts your film transfer order by first setting-up our telecine system with a focus chart to insure

the system is set-up correctly and the focal length is set correctly.  If you film seems a little out of focus, it is a result of the

film starting to deteriorate and soften the images on the film.

Unfortunately, we cannot replace what time has taken away.

Q. What about blank, black, clear, or dark sections of film?
We will edit out any clear or black footage from your film If you have dark film we can lighten it,

usually with pleasing results.

Q. Some of our film is out of focus and we have some sections with very shaky camera-work.
It is our policy to transfer all exposed footage including shaky camera work and out of focus film.

We have found that customers still enjoy their films even under these circumstances.

Q. Will we get our old film back?
Yes, in the original condition you submitted it to us in.

Q. What about music or sound on film?
We include (at no charge) background music. It is easy listening music, which is specially designed for

home movies. If your original sound was recorded on film, we will transfer that sound onto video.

Custom music can be added at an additional charge.

Q.  My film is very old and has some breaks in it.
When we receive your film, it is cleaned and repaired (if needed). The cleaning process lubricates your

old dry film and helps keep it from breaking during transfer.

Q.  We want to edit our film before it is transferred, and our old projector does not work. What can we do?
Unfortunately, we do not have any projectors to rent, or a film viewer to use.  We suggest
you try to look at your films using a flashlight and a hand-held magnifier. It is crude, but it usually works.

Or you may have the film transferred and then edit on video at our studio (the easiest method).

There is an additional editing charge involved.

Q.  How do we organize our film?
It you want, just bring your film in. We can transfer it in random order or if the film is dated, we can

transfer it in chronological order. You must first number your reels or boxes for us to run them in correct order.

Q.  Can you put titles on our video?
Yes. One FREE title comes with each film transfer order. We usually suggest: "Family Memories" or

"Through the Years". You may also add additional titles between each of the reels.

There is an additional charge of $5.00 per page for the labor and editing.

Just let us know you want to add titles between each of your reels.
